(опять же 3-ем изданием). 450 тыс. слов, спецтерминология составляет 23,5%. 200 тыс. литературных цитат приведены в толкованиях отдельных значений слов. Основан на картотеке в 10 млн. цитат. Для сравнения: Большой Оксфордский Словарь основан на картотеке в 5 млн. цитат. Однако … есть одно весьма существенное «НО»! – Словарь не содержит имен собственных и никаких сведений о происхождении имен там не найти: Откуда взялись, например, имена Bill,

В формате Collegiate компания выпускает словарь с ежегодным переизданием для университетов и обновлением новой терминологии (и слов, и значений) объемом порядка около 150 тыс. слов. Вообще, в мире издается немыслимое количество словарей Вебстер, не имеющих никакого отношения к оригинальному. Уважающие себя издатели прямо указывают, что их Вебстер — «не тот» (ну очень мелким шрифтом, правда). Другие — пытаются нажиться, не говоря попросту вообще ничего. Саму же компанию G. & C. Merriam Co. — не так уж и давно — приобрела Encyclopedia Britannica (поэтому в ней и появился именно Вебстер)! [2]
